SomaScope MKII at the IGA 2008 in Mexico
During the 9th International Goat Association (IGA) 2008 in Queretaro, Mexico Dr. Steve Zeng from the American Institute for Goat Research, Lanston University, Oklahoma, USA presented the outcome of the comparison between the Electronic vs. the Direct Microscopic Somatic Cell Counting of goat milk.
The study concluded that there is no significant difference in SCC between the method of the SomaScope MKII and the PYMG direct microscopic method. The two methods had a correlation coefficient of 0.9292.
Based on these results it is concluded that the SomaScope ESCC and PYMG DMSCC methods are comparable and the SomaScope MKII is ideal to determine SCC in goat milk when calibrated with goat milk standards.
